Ministry of Youth Affairs and Partners lead  Charge Against Drug Abuse on Afica Youth Day.

To commemorate Africa Youth Day, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, in collaboration with partners, organized an impactful health walk and beach clean-up exercise today. The event, which drew hundreds of young people, aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh, emphasized the importance of engaging young people in productive activities to steer them away from the scourge of drug abuse. “This event is timely, as it serves as a reminder that our young people are valuable assets to our nation,” Minister Sannoh noted. “We must work tirelessly to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions that positively impact their lives and the nation at large.”

The health walk, which started at the St Joseph School and ended at the Lumley Beach, was followed by a clean-up exercise that saw participants enthusiastically collect trash and beautify the beachfront. The event was marked by vibrant music, dance, and health education sessions, which highlighted the devastating effects of drug abuse on individuals, families, and communities.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs, with support from partners, remains committed to designing and implementing programs that empower young people to become responsible citizens and leaders of tomorrow. Today’s event is a testament to this commitment and underscores the importance of collective action in shaping the future of Sierra Leone’s youth.
